This year the Dancing Goats Folk Fest & Goat Beauty Pageant (GOATS FOR GILMER) is raising funds for two local charities, Friends Of Gilmer Animal Shelter and The Gilmer Community Food Pantry. Together we can make a difference for Gilmer County people and pets. Thank you for being a part of this year’s festival and goat pageant.
The Gilmer Community Food Pantry is a 100% volunteer organization dedicated to helping feed the hungry in Gilmer County. There are many individuals and families with children that depend on the food they receive from the pantry to help them get through each month.
Thanks to the generosity of churches, businesses and individuals, 7623 adults and 10,269 children received 480,800 lbs. of food in 2021.
The Gilmer Community Food Pantry hosts programs such as The SACK PACK program. A group of dedicated volunteers pack food for 382 children each week and it is delivered to the schools to be distributed to them on Fridays, so the kids won’t go hungry over the weekend. The Food Pantry also delivers food to Brooks Hill and Cox Creek Apartments each month.
Friends Of Gilmer Animal Shelter (FOGAS) is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3), Gilmer County, charity that seeks to improve life for Gilmer County’s people and pets through: Subsidized pet spay/neuter programs for those in need, funding special equipment and education needs for Gilmer County law enforcement & search and rescue canines, organizing low cost drive through pet vaccination clinics, sponsoring special needs and medical care for Gilmer County Animal Shelter and its homeless pets, presenting children’s pet education programs, and funding TNR programs for feral cats.
